About Derek

I have had great success with helping students make sense of what they thought was foreign. Typical feedback is that they can't believe that they were failing before working with me and progressing so quickly that they are acing the class. I help them achieve this by applying what I have learned as an engineer, high-tech marketing manager, youth basketball coach, and math teacher--keep it simple and make it plain. I explain complex concepts in everyday language and relatable analogies. My students "GET IT"!

About the lesson

Math is NOT boring with me! My students laugh while learning. In addition to my array of dad-jokes I offer an approach which helps students visualize the math concepts they study. We don't simply go through problems step by step. We discuss what is taking place within the problem and how to apply prior knowledge to find solutions. Most importantly, students work diligently with me because the work doesn't feel like drudgery.

Zach was an awesome student...!!! Even though my technology was giving me fits, he stayed focused and implemented my suggestions to answer the review questions in preparation for his test...

Perfect! Derek was very knowledgeable and personable. He make sure my son understood the concepts, so he could move forward in the course with confidence. My son made an A in this class. He probably would have made a C without Derek. In addition Derek would work with us on short notice when necessary. My son’s teacher would often change homework due dates and quizzes and Derek always accommodated us. I can’t say enough good things about our experience with him.

Perfect! Mr. Williams helped my daughter with a Precal class she'd struggled to pass. He was patient, kind & encouraging. He made sure she understood the basics and helped her with her confidence as well. With the help of Mr. Williams, she passed her four week summer Precal class which is very hard to accomplish.
