About Gehna

Hello! I am Gehna Rami, your Captain of Curiosity. I am a dedicated and experienced tutor working with students from transitional kindergarten through high school in all subjects. I hold a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University and am currently pursuing my Master’s in Education at the University of Southern California. My tutoring approach is personalized, hands-on, and empathy-driven. I focus on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel confident asking questions, exploring new ideas, and building skills at their own pace. I adapt my lessons to meet each student’s unique learning style, providing the guidance and encouragement they need to succeed academically and personally. My Approach as a Tutor and How I Share Knowledge Teaching Method and Techniques My tutoring philosophy is centered on student-centered learning. I believe that every student learns differently, and it is my role to meet each learner where they are. I use a combination of direct instruction, guided practice, and project-based activities to ensure that concepts are understood and applied. For younger students, especially transitional kindergarten and first graders, I incorporate hands-on learning, games, and visual aids to make abstract concepts tangible. For older students, including high school learners and foster youth, I focus on structured problem-solving, critical thinking, and applying knowledge to real-life scenarios. I also integrate differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English Language Learners. For students who need additional support, I provide step-by-step guidance, extra examples, and frequent check-ins to monitor comprehension. I encourage questions and create a safe, patient environment where mistakes are seen as opportunities for growth. Technology and interactive tools are incorporated when appropriate to enhance engagement and understanding. Typical Lesson Plan A typical lesson begins with a brief review of prior knowledge to activate the student’s memory and prepare for new content. Next, I introduce the new concept using examples, visual aids, and, if applicable, manipulatives or digital tools. Students then engage in guided practice, where I provide scaffolding and immediate feedback. Independent practice follows, allowing students to apply their learning while I circulate to address challenges and ensure mastery. Lessons conclude with reflection and a summary, where students articulate what they learned and how they can use it in future tasks. Homework or follow-up activities are assigned strategically to reinforce learning without overwhelming the student. What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor I believe my strength lies in my ability to connect with students and adapt my teaching style to their individual needs.
