About Brock

I lived in Colombia for seven years, teaching English and learning Spanish. I always paid close attention to the kinds of errors that my Spanish-speaking students made, which helped me to understand more about the way their language works, and how it differs from English. I was lucky enough to also be working with some amazing Spanish teachers who were able to help me make sense of it all, and I can assure that I made the most of that opportunity. And of course, I needed to use Spanish in order to get by in Colombian society. The processes of listening to Spanish Speakers in both English and Spanish, teaching English, and speaking Spanish myself were all mutually reinforcing. The more I did it, the more I became aware of the patterns that existed in both languages. I found that I was making fewer mistakes when speaking Spanish, and also found positive results when I included this in my English teaching. Wanting to understand more about these patterns led me to linguistics, which I am now studying. I know live with my Colombian partner here in Australia and still spend as much time speaking Spanish as I do English.

About the lesson

I offer English classes at all levels. I have a CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and I’m currently studying linguistics at the university of Newcastle. I have a detailed knowledge of English grammar and a talent for simplifying difficult concepts. Are you tired of making the same speech errors again and again?
