About Melissa
I am a part-time language teacher in Kingston, Canada and native Canadian speaker of English. I have taught English and French to students with 25+ nationalities. I have taught at two school boards, St. Lawrence College, Queen's University School of English, Canadian Forces Base Kingston, and conversational classes at Kingston Language Institute (Kingston, Canada). I hold two degrees: Bachelor of Arts, medial in French and a Bachelor of Education, French/English and a TEFL (teaching as a foreign language) certificate from the University of Ottawa. I am a member of the Ontario (Canada) College of Teachers, in good standing.

My teaching methodology is based on experiential (real life in context) learning, and integrating all 4 core skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. I believe in assessing your needs and requirements to plan lessons and then use SMART goal setting to self-assess and set your goals. I use a communicative approach to teaching and learning. In the first lesson, I want to hear about your learning goals, current language level and interests, so I can prepare future lessons that are engaging and enjoyable. I also focus on becoming fluent and meaning in the target language, not correctness exclusively.
