About Reiko

Experienced Native Japanese Professional Dedicated to Your Success
Hello! My name is Reiko, and I am a professional Japanese language instructor originally from Tokyo, now living in Sydney.
With over 15 years of teaching experience and a formal qualification from the 420-hour Advanced Japanese Teacher Training Course, I bring both deep pedagogical knowledge and real-world expertise to every lesson. I have spent my career focusing on the quality of learning for each individual student.
I understand that starting a new language can feel overwhelming. That is why I pride myself on creating a supportive, structured, and professional environment. As a native speaker of the Tokyo dialect (standard Japanese), I ensure that you learn the most natural and clear form of the language. Being local to Sydney, I am excited to offer both in-person lessons and online sessions for your convenience.
Throughout my 15-year journey as a tutor, I have carefully guided my students—from absolute beginners to those preparing for life in Japan—helping them achieve their personal goals at their own pace. I don't just teach grammar; I provide the cultural context, ensuring your learning is both meaningful and permanent.
When you study with me, you are gaining a dedicated partner who is committed to your fluency. I look forward to meeting you!

About the lesson

Hi! I’m Reiko, a native Japanese tutor born and raised in Tokyo, now based in Sydney. With over 15 years of teaching experience and a completed 420-hour Advanced Japanese Teacher Training Course, I am dedicated to helping beginners in Australia and worldwide take their first steps with confidence.
1. Techniques and Methodology
I believe language learning should be practical and stress-free. My method focuses on "Indirect Method" (using English for explanations) for absolute beginners to ensure you understand the "why" behind the grammar, and "Direct Method" (immersion) as you progress. I use visual aids, real-life scenarios, and interactive drills to make sure you’re not just memorizing, but actually speaking.
2. Typical Lesson Structure
A standard lesson is 60 minutes, but I am flexible depending on your goals.
• First 10 mins: Warm-up & Review of previous topics.
• 30 mins: New grammar/vocabulary with practical examples.
• 15 mins: Role-play or free conversation to build fluency.
• Last 5 mins: Feedback and goal setting for the next session.
3. My Qualifications & Experience
As a certified professional, I’ve spent 15 years refining my curriculum. Being from Tokyo, I teach clear, standard Japanese (Hyojungo) which is essential for any learner. I’ve helped hundreds of students pass exams, prepare for trips to Japan, and master daily conversation.
4. Who are my lessons for?
My lessons are specially designed for beginners and intermediate learners of all ages. Whether you are a student starting from zero, an adult hobbyist, or someone planning a move to Japan, I tailor my pace to suit you.
Let’s start this exciting journey together! I look forward to meeting you in our
