About Lizeth

Hello, my name is Lizeth abello, I am 24 years old and I am from Colombia. I am a Spanish and English teacher with 5 years of experience in the teaching field. Spanish is my native language and I have a bachelor's degree in English teaching. In addition, I am certified in teaching spanish as a foreign language. I like to do research on new pedagogical trends. In fact, I am writing a thesis about Spanish teaching and homeschooling. Similarly, I am about to start my masters degree in Applied Linguistics to Spanish teaching. Regarding my work experience, I have worked with students of all ages. For example, I have taught Spanish to English speakers. The age ranges go from kids 6 to 17 years old. But also, I have oriented Spanish classes to adults of all ages.
I love teaching and I like to focus my clases on communicative approaches for varied reasons. First, I like to help my students develop oral competences because I understand they need to communicate in the real world. Second, conversational Spanish helps students see the language as an enjoyable experience. And third, because speaking is the most challenging skill to develop, and I love making my students take risks and leave their comfort zone!
Finally, I am a responsible, passionate, easy going, and committed teacher who always considers her students’ needs and likes. I think my students must be the center of the classroom. This is why I do not believe in traditional teaching. Instead, I love seeing learners as the main actor in the teaching process. My students share their ideas and build knowledge together when seeing the teacher as a guide and a helper.

About the lesson

I am very relatable to the Communicative Approach. The reason is because this approach full-fills today’s society needs. Nowadays, Spanish learners need to communicate with other cultures and places. The communicative approach connects people together.
In order to create opportunity and awareness, my learners use the language for meaningful communication. This approach ensures that teachers use techniques like authentic materials, information gap exercises, language games, role-plays, and activities that create opportunities to communicate in the target language. I also relate my teaching approach to the Comprehension approach. In this case, to help myself make meaning clear. I believe teachers must help learners gain confidence to produce language.
