About Jack
In 2021 I attained a 1st in Chemical Engineering (BEng) at Queen's University Belfast, finishing top of my year overall. The following year, I completed an industrial placement in process engineering. In 2022/23, I will be undertaking an MEng in chemical engineering, after which I will be starting a graduate job in the pharmaceutical industry. I achieved 3 A*s at A Level in maths, chemistry and biology as well as A*s and As across the board at GCSE. Prior to my GCSE and A Level years, I was not an exceptional student. But something changed when I knew I needed to get good grades to meet the entry requirements of my desired university course. I fought so hard to make this happen, but I did it on my own. In the beginning, I tried and failed time and again to find dependable study techniques and to understand the material. In retrospect, I believe I could have achieved what I did a lot more efficiently if I had a mentor or someone who had done it before guiding me. I don't want other students to have to fight as hard as I did or to sacrifice as much as I did. Truthfully, I'm not here for money, I'm here to give back. I want to help students crush their A levels so they can pursue their dream profession like I did and I'm here to make it easier for them to do that. It is my mission especially, to convince those students who don't yet have the belief in themselves, that they are capable of achieving that A*, they are capable of scoring >90%, they are capable of getting into that university. I have done the groundwork, now let me show you the path to success!

My experience: I have moderate experience tutoring A Level and GCSE students and currently volunteer 1 hour per week as a tutor with Tutor the Nation UK. I am still working to build up my tutoring experience but I have accrued between 10-20 hours of 1:1 tutoring contact in total, including both online and in-person interactions. I use the online communication platforms Microsoft Teams and Zoom to deliver my lessons, which are usually 1 hour in duration. How I plan to help: I am very capable of tutoring my students in my A Level subjects in the traditional style where we would first explore what level they are currently performing at, what their goals are, what some of their weaknesses are and use all of that information to ensure that they can meet their assessment goals on time. Obviously, once key weaknesses are determined, we can work together to improve in these areas by going over problems and questions in detail. However, I hope to offer my students something more than just traditional tutoring. I am a study skills specialist and, if my students are interested, I will also provide them with great advice and coaching in this area that they can apply to their specific subject and even to others. I truly want my students to reach their full potential and I will not be satisfied until I have done everything in my power to facilitate this. Knowledge of the curriculum: I have an in-depth knowledge of the UK A Level curricula in my subjects, especially those of the Northern Irish (UK) exam board authority CCEA. However, I know how to access all exam board past papers and curricula and my sessions will focus strongly on the formatting and questions asked in the past papers written by the exam board under which my student will be a candidate, as in my experience this practice leads to the best results in my students' assessments.
