About Jocelyn
My teaching character relies on the fact that I have supported 124 students throughout my 13 years of experience in chemistry education. I finished my Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry at the University of Adelaide before starting this journey as an international student in Australia.
Transitioning from complex research to helping struggling students needing fundamentals or intermediate learners has been a rewarding shift. I often find that explaining the mole concept or chemical bonding requires a very patient, rigorous approach. My students are generally aiming for competitive medicine, dentistry, and biomedical science programs at Melbourne, Sydney, Monash, and UNSW. I treat every reaction mechanism and equation balancing problem as a puzzle that requires detail-oriented thinking.
Many of my Year 11 and 12 students find that the periodic table and trends become intuitive once they understand the underlying physical chemistry. It is quite common for me to spend extra time ensuring the basics are solid before we move to advanced inorganic chemistry topics. That is the reality of my classroom routine.

Chemistry is often seen as a collection of facts, but it is actually a language of patterns. Understanding the periodic table and trends helps clarify why chemical bonding behaves in predictable ways. I fix the common struggle students face with the mole concept by focusing on the logic behind the math. We balance equations using systematic methods rather than guessing coefficients.
Reaction mechanisms become much clearer when you view them as energetic paths. I use mock tests with error analysis before exams to sharpen your performance. My focus remains on physical chemistry and inorganic chemistry nuances that frequently trip up students.
You will find that these rigorous reviews identify gaps that are otherwise hidden. I look forward to working through these challenges with you.
