About Coach

I've been playing chess since I was 9 years old and have been an active player ever since. From representing my school at the age of 9 to competing at district, state, and even qualifying for the national MSSM level, chess has been a major part of my life. I also represented my university twice in competitions. Eventually, I decided to step away from competitive play to focus on coaching and nurturing new talent. Why do I want to teach? Simply put, I never had a coach when I started. I learned chess on my own, through experience, trial and error, and a lot of self-study. Over the years, I realized there were things I wished I had learned earlier, which could have accelerated my growth. My goal is to help young players discover their potential early, build a strong foundation, and enjoy the game as much as I do. Chess is not just about winning; it's about thinking ahead, learning from mistakes, and developing problem-solving skills. I look forward to guiding students on their own journey, helping them grow not only as chess players but as thinkers.

About the lesson

I am a professional chess coach with over three years of experience coaching beginner to intermediate players. I have taught both one-to-one private lessons and group classes under a chess academy. My coaching focuses on building strong fundamentals, practical thinking, and confidence during real games. I also prepare students for tournament play, including district-level (MSSD) and state-level (MSSN) competitions. Lessons are structured but flexible, and always adapted to each student’s level, pace, and personal goals.

Based in Kuantan, I offer private in-person and online lessons, along with small group classes of up to eight students.
