About Oakley

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Master of Science in Cognitive Studies, and I have 7 years of experience teaching chess to students of different ages and skill levels. My interest in chess started at a young age, and over time, it became a strong passion that I wanted to share with others. Teaching chess has allowed me to help students not only improve their game but also develop important thinking skills that are useful in everyday life.

My teaching style focuses on clarity, patience, and structured learning. I believe that understanding the logic behind moves is more important than memorizing patterns. I guide students step by step, helping them build strong fundamentals before moving to advanced strategies. I also encourage students to think independently, analyze their games, and learn from their mistakes. Creating a positive and supportive environment is very important to me because it helps students stay motivated and enjoy learning.

Outside of teaching, I continue to study chess strategies, analyze games, and explore different learning techniques to improve my teaching methods. I enjoy staying connected with the game and learning new ideas that I can share with my students. Teaching chess is very rewarding because I get to see students grow in confidence, improve their thinking skills, and enjoy the learning process.

About the lesson

Chess lessons become truly engaging when students begin to understand not just the moves, but the thinking behind each decision. My lessons focus on building strong fundamentals such as piece movement, board awareness, and simple strategies while gradually introducing deeper concepts like planning, positioning, and game analysis. I explain ideas in a clear and simple way so that students can follow easily and apply them during practice games. Each lesson includes guided play, puzzles, and analysis that help students improve their thinking skills step by step. I create a calm and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable exploring strategies and learning from mistakes.

Beginners start with understanding the board, piece movements, basic rules, and simple checkmates. Intermediate players work on openings, tactics, combinations, and understanding opponent moves. Advanced learners focus on positional play, long-term strategy, and detailed game analysis. I adjust lessons based on each student’s level and provide consistent feedback to help them improve steadily and confidently. Practice games and guided correction are important parts of every session.

Chess helps students develop concentration, patience, logical thinking, and decision-making skills. As students improve, they become more confident in analyzing situations and making thoughtful choices. Many students also notice improvements in focus and problem-solving skills in other areas of their life. My goal is to make chess enjoyable, educational, and rewarding for every learner.
