About Audrey
I found my way into teaching Spanish through early classroom volunteering, where I first noticed how differently children and adults approach learning a new language. That early observation shaped my formal study afterward, which focused specifically on how language gets taught effectively at different ages. Combining that academic training with genuine classroom experience gave me practical tools I still rely on today. That foundation now shapes how patiently I introduce Spanish to complete beginners of any age.
Working with children alongside adult beginners means constantly adjusting energy, pacing and materials depending on who I'm actually teaching. I never assume one approach fits both groups, since children and adults absorb new language quite differently. What I find most rewarding is watching a nervous beginner, young or old, proudly say their first full sentence in Spanish unprompted. That small, genuine moment of pride is exactly why I continue teaching this way.
I stay closely connected to Spanish personally, through reading, travel and regular conversation with native speakers. This keeps my teaching genuinely current and reflective of how the language is actually used today. Lessons often adjust closely around whatever helps a beginner feel most comfortable and motivated. My hope remains simple, that every student leaves genuinely enjoying their early steps into Spanish.

Complete beginners, whether children or adults starting fresh, need Spanish introduced slowly, one small building block at a time. Simple greetings and everyday words open every course, giving students something immediately usable rather than abstract grammar theory upfront. Children in particular respond well to repetition disguised as play, so songs and short games carry much of the early vocabulary work. Basic sentence structure follows once comfort with individual words feels steady, avoiding the overwhelm that comes from rushing too soon.
As foundations settle, short, simple conversations get introduced, letting students string together words they've already learned into real, usable sentences. Children enjoy practicing through pretend scenarios, ordering imaginary food or introducing themselves to a puppet or toy during class. Adult beginners instead prefer straightforward dialogue practice, focusing on genuinely useful phrases for everyday situations. I keep corrections gentle and encouraging throughout, since early confidence matters more than early perfection in Spanish.
I remind parents and adult students alike that small, steady progress adds up far more than occasional, rushed study sessions. Spanish sticks best when practice stays frequent, even if each session only lasts a short while. Lessons stay closely tied to what genuinely interests each student, keeping motivation naturally high. My focus throughout remains patient, helping every beginner build real, lasting comfort with Spanish.
