About Harrison
I grew up in Guangzhou (also know as Canton), a city in southern China, where I was deeply influenced by traditional Cantonese culture. From a young age, I developed a strong interest in the kitchen and learned to cook Cantonese home-style dishes from my mother. One of my favorite childhood activities was going to the local market with my mother every weekend to pick out fresh ingredients for the day. We would then return home and figure out how to turn nature’s gifts into delicious dishes, sharing them with the rest of the family.
When I started living on my own in high school, I enjoyed the freedom of deciding what to cook and eat each day. Not only did I continue to recreate my mother’s home-cooked meals, but I also expanded my culinary repertoire by learning to prepare Szechuan dishes, known for their "mala" flavors, from cookbooks and online recipes. I believe many foreigners also fall in love with the unique taste of Szechuan cuisine. Beyond home cooking, I loved exploring the diverse culinary scene in my city—from street food in hidden alleys to fancy restaurants in malls—sharpening my palate and inspiring my own cooking.
Since moving to Australia for my studies, the country’s diverse and inclusive culture, along with its abundant food resources, have allowed me to continue creating the flavors of home. I’m familiar with sourcing ingredients for authentic Chinese dishes from local supermarkets like Coles and Woolworths, as well as Asian grocery stores, and I’m excited to bring these flavors into Australian homes.
