About Kate
I have been involved in music for over 12 years, beginning my training on the violin before transitioning to double bass, which I have played for the past 8 years. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Engineering and a Bachelor of Philosophy (Music) at the University of Western Australia. I have been a member of the Western Australian Youth Orchestra for six years and currently hold the position of Principal Bassist. In high school, I completed Music ATAR - achieving top class marks in both Year 11 and 12.

With the double bass being such a large and physically demanding instrument, I teach my students how to be comfortable and confident in their setup. Placing strong emphasis on correct posture and positioning is vital to avoiding injury. My teaching focusses on the ways to embrace the unique tone of the double bass by laying down solid technical groundwork to improve tone, intonation, and fluidity of playing. Alongside this, I support students in exploring expressive elements to communicate feeling and character in a piece of music.
I teach complete beginners to intermediate (~AMEB 6), and can also teach AMEB Music Theory grades 1 to 3, as well as Music ATAR.
Lessons are $50/hour.
