1 Classical Portraiture Bouguereau’s technique features, “Little Girl” painting, traditional (tinted) method
2 Block in Making a ground with neutral tones (impramature) and transfer original image onto board or canvas, paint in blocks of Raw sienna
3 Monochromic tones Relationships between Raw sienna and burnt umber in the area of face and hair, temperature of color, making first glazing (warm), establish the overall color scheme,
4 Drawing Form Judging light and dark, form and outline, continue using comparative measurements to place features lines for the facial organs, making second glazing
5 Paint the background The background frames the rest of the painting and is used to correct the overall shape of the portrait, making third glazing (cool)
6 The shadow shapes and value establish balance between dark and light and build up in layers, describe value sequence of the portrait, fourth glazing (warm).
7 Paint the lights Go from the brightest white to darkest dark, unified shadow tone and place the darkest white to it to work darker to lighter and final glazing (cool)
