About Jeremy
I'm a clinical researcher and a professional tutor, and I've been both for a long time.
The tutoring came first: four years across Sylvan, Oxford Learning Center, Lindamood-Bell, and the Boys' Club of New York, teaching math, biology, chemistry, physics, and English, plus SAT, ACT, and GRE preparation. Most recently I taught at Huntington Learning Center here in New York. At Lindamood-Bell I did clinical work with students who have dyslexia, autism, and auditory processing differences, building reading fluency from the ground up. That's where I learned that nobody learns anything while they're embarrassed.
The rest of my working life has been in medical research. B.S. in Neuroscience and an M.S.P.H. from Tulane, and I'm finishing an M.S. in Biostatistics at Brown now, so the coursework I tutor is coursework I'm still doing. Thirteen years running clinical studies, including at Columbia University Medical Center, where I trained and supervised research staff. I'm a published author in JAMA Ophthalmology.
What that adds up to for you: I've spent my career explaining technical material to people who didn't share my background, which is most of what good tutoring is. I'm patient, I'm organized, and I have no interest in making you feel behind.

I tutor four things that usually travel together: biology, chemistry, math, and the academic English that carries all three. Most students come to me with one of them in trouble and find the problem is actually next door — the biology is solid but the vocabulary isn't, or the math is solid but the word problems aren't.
Sessions run on your material, not a worksheet I brought along. Bring the problem set you're stuck on, the lab report that came back covered in red, the exam you're dreading. I'll ask you to explain things back to me, because that's how we find the exact sentence where it breaks down and rebuild from there.
In practice that looks different by subject. In biology we build the terminology alongside the concepts instead of hoping you absorbed it in lecture. In chemistry we work on why a reaction goes the way it does, so a problem you've never seen is still solvable. In math we separate the algebra from the reading, since those need different fixes. In writing I'll show you the two or three habits producing most of your corrections, rather than just fixing this draft.
High school through graduate level, in person anywhere in New York City or online, evenings and weekends.
