About Nelson

I'm an UQ engineering/commerce student who's had a dance background for over 8 years and a music background for as long as I can remember. I've been a part of our university's "UQ Dance" club for 3 full years as well as "UQ Street Groove" for 3 years which both seeks to further better the dance skills and personal growth of its members. Lately I have been a contributor for Brazilian dance school "Cloud9Zouk" who teaches the Brazilian latin partner dance style "Zouk" (Not listed on this website) but I also have much experience in the other popular styles Salsa and Bachata. I have given many peers and contacts "off-the-side" lessons and seen many of my friends' performances skyrocket and I hope I can do the same for you.

I am also capable of teaching introductory old-school funk styles, namely Popping and Locking, as I have had over 5 years of self-taught experience and 3 years of learning them properly. However I no longer specialise in this field.

About the lesson

I approach all my teachings via a solid familiarity on basic steps, frame, connections and general foundations and can break down complex moves and steps as simply an interpreted variation of a basic step.

Musicality (best interpreted as dancing for the purpose of the song and not for the sake of dance) is also an integral part of the dance and will be the other major focus (and can definitely be learnt) which will especially help students understand why certain moves or the dance style itself exists.

This way my students and peers have always points of references and can easily identify how to improve and become more confident in their dance lives, whether it is for performance or general social settings.

Perfect! Nelson was amazing, with so many dance styles that he is proficient in & they are all so different! It is perfect if we want to change it up & try something new. Nelson is friendly & very passionate about his love of dancing. It is a pleasure to learn with him & each week we can't wait for our next lesson.
