About Peter
I’ve been working as a College Professor for the past 16 years; teaching a large variety of Civil Engineering and Construction courses. Prior to working in academics, I spent 8 years working throughout Latin America on water and sanitation projects as a Peace Corps volunteer, USAID-Honduras program director, and engineer for several non-profit organizations.
My true passion is teaching! Through my teaching experiences as a college teaching assistant, high school English teacher (Peace Corps), Peace Corps trainer, and college professor I’ve learned two important lessons:
• Most students learn best when they can see how each lesson’s content (theories, concepts, examples) relate to real-life applications.
• Students prefer an active learning environment with hands-on learning experiences.
I emphasize these two concepts in every lesson. While hands-on learning can be challenging in an online environment, I learned to use technology like the Lightboard (a clear chalkboard that is lit up internally with LEDs so that the writing glows) to make this happen.
