About Cathy

Cathy Hirata ~ Owner/Creative Director

Ms. Hirata’s background includes formal voice and piano with the founding members of Opera San Jose — New York Metropolitan Opera Singer Irene Dalis, former Oberlin College Professor David Rohrbaugh and SJSU Choral Director Dr. Charlene Archibeque. She has performed with the San Jose Symphony and San Jose Opera. A scholarship recipient and graduate of San Jose State University, she received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance, a secondary teaching credential in music education and has attended courses at the University of California Davis Mind Institute for a certificate in autism studies. Past certifications include: Certified Signing Smart and Licensed Kindermusik Educator, the Co-Representative for the Greater Bay Area Chapter of the California Partnership of Kindermusik Educator’s, and is currently a member of the Carnegie Hall Royal Conservatory Achievement Program.

Ms. Hirata founded Creative Music Students (formerly Where Music Begins) in 2000. During the first months of opening, she received several inquiries from parents with children on the autism spectrum who could not find a piano teacher who would take them. After researching and working with families, her studio became one of the largest that provided all inclusive and adapted music lessons to students in the San Francisco Bay Area with just under 400 students. In 2011 she moved to Southern California to work with a non-profit organization in the San Diego and Orange County areas, and developing her own program for students

About the lesson

Creative Music Students is El Dorado Hill’s premier playing based instruction center offering piano and voice lessons in El Dorado Hills, Folsom, Citrus Heights, Orangevale and Fair Oaks.

Our goal is to have you make music your lifelong companion in the shortest time possible.

We offer piano lessons for all levels. For beginners, our students are introduced to a playing based, Australian-developed piano method which teaches students how to play piano by immersing them in the process of playing from the beginning.

For advanced students, we evaluate their placement and use programs accordingly. We also offer classes in voice, and Play a Story, an early childhood improvisation program for children ages 4-6.

Our playing based method, the Better Practice App and the Power of Two Accelerated program put us in a unique position as the only studio that offers this kind of service in El Dorado County.

Our Keys To Success For El Dorado Hills Piano Lessons:

-Creating an environment where students routinely acquire and retain music as a lifelong companion
-Students experiencing playing as a natural self-expression.
-Students having the ability to play a huge repertoire covering a vast array of musical styles.
-Students having the ability to self generate, i.e. the ability to progress independently. This includes developing a strong foundation in music reading and theory.
-To have a highly positive, self-affirming experience throughout the music learning process.
=Whether you are a child, teenager, adult, or senior looking for piano lessons, we can have you play great sounding songs the day you start lessons.
