About Valerie
Biology is part of a ten-year tutoring career during which I have taught 470 students, ranging from struggling secondary pupils to more confident learners preparing seriously for exams. My background includes strong personal training in the sciences, which I bring into lessons through plain, practical explanations rather than dense, intimidating academic language. I am patient and encouraging throughout every lesson, and I take real pride in helping students who have been told they are simply not a science person move past that belief. Many students tell me biology starts to feel logical and connected rather than a list of disconnected facts after just a few sessions. My biology lessons focus on building genuine conceptual understanding before introducing heavier memorisation content, since students consistently retain facts far better once they truly understand the underlying logic connecting different systems together. I use simple diagrams and relatable everyday analogies to explain abstract processes, since visual and relatable explanations reliably outperform pure memorisation of unfamiliar terminology for most learners. Practice questions follow immediately after each new concept, keeping the gap between learning and genuine testing as short as possible throughout every session. I introduce past exam questions gradually as a student's confidence builds naturally, rather than starting with high pressure timed practice too early in the process. Homework review always opens the following session, ensuring unresolved confusion never has a chance to quietly build up over time.
