About Shikara
Hi! I’m Shikara, a licensed elementary teacher currently teaching 3rd grade. Working with third graders has shown me how important strong reading foundations are in the early grades, and I’m especially passionate about helping K–2 students build confidence and skills before reading struggles become bigger challenges later on.
I work with students who need support with letter identification, phonics, decoding, fluency, comprehension, and overall reading confidence. My teaching style is calm, patient, structured, and encouraging, and I always try to meet students where they are while helping them grow step by step. I also have experience supporting students with different learning needs, including students with IEPs and 504 plans.
I have experience working with students in classroom settings, small groups, and one-on-one tutoring both virtually and in person. My goal is to help students feel successful, supported, and proud of their progress while building strong foundational literacy skills that will help them throughout school.

As a certified elementary educator and current 3rd grade classroom teacher, I specialize in helping young students build strong reading foundations while gaining confidence and clarity as learners. Working with third graders has shown me how important early literacy skills are, and I’m passionate about helping K–2 students strengthen those skills before reading struggles become larger academic challenges.
I support students in areas such as letter identification, phonics, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. My sessions are structured, supportive, and intentionally paced to meet students where they are while helping them grow step by step. I focus not only on helping students read words correctly, but also on helping them understand and connect with what they are reading.
My teaching style is calm, encouraging, and patient. I create an environment where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and build confidence as they learn. Sessions may include explicit instruction, teacher modeling, guided practice, comprehension support, and strategies that help students become more independent readers over time.
Sessions are held virtually and are designed to support both academic growth and confidence-building. The complimentary first session is a 30-minute diagnostic and planning meeting rather than a full tutoring lesson.
