About Kate
With 16 years of experience in the middle school classroom, including the last three as an interventionist, I bring a deep understanding of how students learn and grow. My professionalism is rooted in years of working with diverse learners, adapting my teaching strategies to meet individual needs, and creating a structured, supportive environment. I take my role as an educator seriously, always ensuring that my lessons are well-prepared, research-based, and aligned with best teaching practices. Students can feel confident knowing they are learning from an experienced educator who has dedicated their career to helping young minds succeed. I approach each session with patience, adaptability, and a commitment to student success. My ability to listen, identify challenges, and provide targeted support ensures that every student feels heard and empowered. No matter the pace at which they learn, I will be there to guide them with clarity and encouragement. Beyond just providing instruction, I inspire students to take ownership of their learning, build confidence, and develop problem-solving skills that extend beyond the classroom. Learning is not just about getting the right answers—it's about understanding concepts, applying knowledge, and believing in one’s ability to grow. Through engaging lessons, real-world connections, and a positive learning environment, I help students not only improve academically but also develop the mindset and resilience needed for lifelong success.

My approach to teaching is student-centered, recognizing that every learner absorbs information at their own pace. I emphasize differentiated instruction by adapting lessons to meet individual needs, whether through hands-on activities, visual aids, or scaffolded questioning. Engagement is key, and I focus on building relationships with students to make learning relevant and meaningful. By encouraging active learning, I help students think critically, ask questions, and apply concepts through discussions and interactive exercises. Additionally, I use assessment data to tailor instruction, ensuring targeted interventions when necessary.
A typical lesson begins with a warm-up and review to activate prior knowledge, followed by the introduction of a new concept using multiple representations, such as visual, auditory, and hands-on methods. Afterward, students engage in guided practice, where we work through examples together, allowing for questions and checks for understanding. They then apply their learning through independent or collaborative practice, where they problem-solve or work in groups. The lesson wraps up with a recap and reflection, ensuring key takeaways are reinforced and any remaining questions are addressed.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my extensive experience and adaptability. With 16 years in the middle school classroom, including three years as an interventionist, I understand diverse learning needs and tailor my approach accordingly. I prioritize patience and listening, taking the time to understand each student’s struggles and strengths so they feel heard and supported. My approach fosters a growth mindset, helping students build confidence by showing them that mistakes are part of the learning process. Additionally, I ensure lessons are engaging and relevant by connecting them to real-world applications, making learning more meaningful.
My lessons are designed for middle school students (Grades 6-8) who need reinforcement in core subjects, students struggling with foundational skills who require intervention, and learners who need confidence-building to overcome academic challenges. I also support students preparing for transitions, such as moving from elementary to middle school or middle to high school. Regardless of their needs, I am committed to helping each student succeed at their own pace.
