About Vinay
Vinay Sundar is a 19-year-old bassoonist from Santa Clarita, CA. He is currently a first-year student at the Juilliard School, and previously participated in the Youth Orchestra and Honors Woodwind Quintet at the Colburn Community School. He has participated in masterclasses with Sophie Dervaux, William May, Carin Miller, Fei Xie, Judith LeClair, Shawn Mouser, Daniel Matsukawa, Miles Maner, Akio Koyama, Julian Gonzales, and Evan Epifanio. Vinay was selected as a semifinalist for The Music Center’s Spotlight Competition, and finalist for the U.S. Navy Band’s Young Artist Solo Competition and Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts Instrumental Competition, where he won 2nd place in the woodwind division. Vinay was also awarded a fellowship to participate in the National Symphony Orchestra's Summer Music Institute two years in a row. Vinay is currently studying under the tutelage of William Short, principal bassoonist of the Metropolitan Opera. His previous teachers include Otto Sit and Evan Kuhlmann, with additional guidance from Samuel Rhoton.

My goal is for students to have a solid understanding of the fundamentals that go into playing the bassoon. My lessons will consist of working on scales, etudes, and other music the student is interested in learning, which can range from solo works to orchestral excerpts. I will always match my expectations to the student's level and needs.
