About Liesl-Mae
Hello, future students! I'm Liesl and I am 15 years old. I was born and raised in Malaysia and later migrated to Brisbane, Australia. I am a senior high school student attending the Queensland Academies (QA). Growing up in Malaysia, playing the piano was a significant part of my cultural upbringing. I attended weekly lessons, practiced at home, and played at family functions. Migrating to Australia brought about a big cultural change, and initially, I lacked the motivation to continue playing the piano. However, upon rediscovering my passion, I realized I could help others learn or continue learning the piano with the same pride that this skill carried back home.

In my classes, we won't use apps like Simply Piano or Skoove. I aim to teach students the traditional way of learning the piano through practicing scales and sight reading, rather than relying on an app.
The traditional one-on-one learning approach is more effective as it provides a personalized lesson tailored to the student's learning style. In-person learning enables the tutor to offer immediate feedback to correct hand posture, technique, and the use of dynamics—elements that learning apps cannot address. Lastly, having a tutor instead of relying on an app keeps the student accountable for practising and motivates them to practice more.
