My teaching way is meeting the child(ren), understanding about what are being challenged to learn and then finding the best way to show that math is fun. I like to use coins, lollies, snakes and things at home to make math tangible and better understanding for the kids, but I also use Kumon method to ensure the learning is being captioned from them properly. I also like to discuss the methodology I am going to use on the child with the parents.
I am accountant and I have worked as a volunteer math teacher to help children with issues in simple operations and math expressions. As a teacher I have used 2 methodologies, kumon (Japanese method) and positive education. I am applying those on my 8 years old child.
Kids learning have influence from their childhood and sometime kids do not have math issues, even though they are getting bad scores. On that situation, I will stop to give lessons and ask about psychological diagnosis. Whether this is positive, I will compensate 30% back of the future classes already booked.
