About Beth
I am a highly organised and efficient individual, passionate and motivated, with a drive for excellence. I've had a wealth of involvement in chamber and orchestral positions as well as experience playing many different types of flute from renaissance, baroque & classical flute to modern, alto, bass flute & piccolo. After beginning piano at four and flute at age six, I studied both instruments at Chetham’s School of Music from age eleven before going on to study modern flute and historical flutes on the joint-principal course at the Royal College of Music with Gitte Marcusson and Rachel Brown. As a freelancing musician in London, I have been able to perform a vast array of music in many different settings. I am currently the principal flautist of the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra and the London Baroque Orchestra as well as working frequently with the Academy of Ancient Music. Passionate about chamber music, I am a member of several groups including The Flutes & Frets Duo, Lumas Winds, Grand Siècle & Ensemble Matters which has enabled me to perform in many festivals, concerts, competitions and events.

I strive to keep the music itself as the centre of focus whilst setting achievable goals tailored to the student's ambition. Music is very personal and individual to the student so I aim to be as flexible as possible, seeking to keep my students inspired and enthusiastic. Whilst grade exams are useful, they are not the summit of music-making so I'm more than happy to help students prepare for grade exams or give them a musical education away from institutional assessments. I have years of experience of private teaching as well as leading group workshops inside a school environment. I have received official teaching training at the Royal College of Music and have worked in a local primary school to gain experience with group and 1-1 tutoring. I typically teach in hour slots and work with any age!

I know Beth since we studied together at the prestigious Royal College of Music and perform some concerts around England. She is an exceptional player, with the most exquisite and beautiful sound and a talented musician able to move audiences, both with modern and historical flutes. At the same time, she has been teaching for a long time and I know that she's totally devoted and committed to her students. She's an excellent pedagogue and has plenty of abilities to communicate how to achieve the most delicate music-making. Don't hesitate to study with her, you will have a wonderful experience!
Beth is a wonderful artist, she is a sensitive, talented and experienced musician and a very kind and patient person. I recommend her to anyone who would like to learn the flute!
Beth is a gentle, patient and kind person as well as an accomplished flautist. She is honest, reliable, puts 100% into everything she does and enjoys passing on her knowledge and skills to others.
Beth is a close friend and musical colleague who I work with regularly. She is one of the most hardworking people I have ever met, is incredibly enthusiastic about all elements of music and has a passion for teaching. She’s a joy to work with and I thoroughly recommend her.
Beth is highly professional, friendly and a cheerful teacher. Her standard of teaching is excellent and she can teach all levels. In particular, she helped my daughter tremendously with her breathing technique and has transformed her flute playing. My daughter always looked forward to her lessons. Beth is truly a wonderful flautist and teacher!
