About Sahana
As a Spanish tutor, I believe in a structured, goal-driven approach that delivers steady, measurable progress—while still keeping lessons engaging and enjoyable. I’ve worked with students at all levels, from beginners learning the basics to more advanced learners polishing their grammar and conversational skills. My method balances systematic grammar instruction, practical vocabulary building, and real-world communication practice. Each lesson is customised to the student’s objectives—whether it’s improving grades, preparing for a language exam, travelling abroad, or gaining fluency for work. I use a combination of structured exercises, conversation practice, listening comprehension, reading, and writing tasks, all of which are aligned to the learner’s current level and goals. Pronunciation and listening skills are developed early on, using songs, dialogues, and audio materials to help students tune their ears to native Spanish. I also place special focus on verb conjugations, sentence structure, and usage of tenses—common areas that learners find challenging. Every new grammar point is introduced clearly, practised through examples, and reinforced through guided exercises and conversation. Cultural topics are woven in to provide context and keep lessons dynamic—whether we’re discussing Spanish holidays, comparing dialects, or reading short stories from Latin America. One success story I’m especially proud of is helping an adult learner move from beginner level to confidently using Spanish in their workplace within a few months. With a clear plan, regular practice, and targeted support, they achieved their goals—and even discovered a love for Spanish literature along the way. My goal is to build confident, independent learners who don’t just know Spanish—but can use it comfortably and correctly in real-life situations.

My approach to teaching Spanish emphasises the three C’s: culture, context, and connection. I believe that learning a language is not just about mastering vocabulary or grammar—it’s about understanding people, stories, and ways of life. I design lessons that go beyond textbooks to bring the Spanish-speaking world to life, while also building solid linguistic foundations. Language is a tool for communication, so I prioritise conversational fluency from the beginning. Even with beginners, I use Spanish consistently in class, combining visual aids, gestures, and real-life examples to help students connect meaning to words naturally. For intermediate and advanced learners, we focus on expanding vocabulary, refining grammar usage, and gaining conversational nuance. Every grammar point is taught in context. Rather than drilling isolated rules, I embed grammar into meaningful conversations, readings, and writing tasks. Whether we’re practising the past tense through storytelling or learning commands by giving directions, students always understand why they’re using a form—not just how. Cultural exploration is at the heart of my method. Each lesson offers a glimpse into the Spanish-speaking world—whether we’re discussing Día de los Muertos in Mexico, reading a poem by Pablo Neruda, or watching a news clip from Spain. Students discover that Spanish is not one language or one accent, but a vibrant mosaic of cultures, dialects, and experiences. One teaching highlight was guiding a group of high schoolers through a pen-pal exchange with students in Argentina. The project sparked authentic curiosity, improved their writing fluency, and gave them real-world motivation to practise Spanish beyond the classroom. The excitement they felt reading real letters from across the world was unforgettable. I also value student agency. Each learner has different goals—whether it’s passing an AP Spanish exam, preparing for a study abroad trip, or learning to speak with family members. I create personalised lesson plans that align with those goals, using materials that reflect their interests—from songs and social media content to literature and film. With the support of digital tools like voice recording apps, flashcard platforms, and interactive games, I help students practise effectively and stay engaged between sessions. My ultimate goal is to help students feel confident, curious, and capable in Spanish—ready to use it not just in class, but in real life.
