About Natalie
I took sewing class for my Senior years at High School. Since then I have been sewing my own clothes, bags and other items. If I see something I like that I know I cannot afford I see if I have the skills to make it. Most times I discover that I do have the skills I need.
I have taught only one person - a family member who needed new pillowcases for her lounge. I measured the pillows to find out how much fabric we needed, then bought it. We worked together, marking up the fabric, cutting the pieces out and pinning them. She sewed them all herself. Four pillows in total. She even learned how to sew in zippers. The satisfaction she now has, knowing that she did not need to buy expensive, new pillowcases adds to the fact that she made them all herself. A fact that she can be proud of and she can tell her friends.

I have basic sewing and design experience, but I've made my own clothes from store bought patterns regularly. After a free first consultation at a fabric store where we'll look at patterns, fabric and notions, if I do not have the skills to help you I'll let you know.
If I can help you - this is my approach the topic by encouraging the student to pick what they want. Pattern, material, colours and design. This ensures they like what they'll be making. Then I demonstrate the sewing aspect briefly and then let the student take charge. Hands on learning is the most effective and memorable. This approach also allows the student to tell their friends that they made their clothes all by themselves.
