About Kun

My name is Xu Kun (徐坤). I am Chinese, originally from Shanghai.
I speak Mandarin, Nanchangese, and Shanghainese, as well as English, French, and some Italian. I studied Qigong at Wudang Mountain with Master Yuan Shimao. I hold an MFA in Actor Training & Coaching from the University of London (UK) and an MBA from IAE Poitiers (France).

With over 20 years of experience as a trainer and coach, I have long been inspired by Chinese philosophy, though I was not initially drawn to Qigong or Taichi, which felt too abstract and mythical to me.

That changed fifteen years ago, when a severe lower-back injury caused by gym training left me in chronic pain. A Chinese Medicine doctor recommended Qigong as part of my recovery. I was surprised by how quickly it helped restore my mobility, and the experience transformed my understanding of the body, movement, and life itself.

Taichi is not suitable for everyone without proper preparation.
Although it appears slow and gentle, Taichi is a high-level martial art that places complex demands on the body, mind, energy, and awareness. When practised without sufficient foundation, it can be challenging—particularly for people with no martial arts background or those who spend long hours sitting at a desk, especially individuals experiencing ongoing tension in the knees or lower back.

Traditionally in China, especially at Wudang Mountain, students were required to complete two to three years of Qigong foundation training before learning Taichi. This preparatory work was essential for building structural alignment, internal awareness, and energetic stability.

In my teaching, I do not focus on classical Taichi forms. Instead, I teach the foundational practices.
This approach supports balance and vitality, encourages healthier body alignment, eases long-term discomfort, and cultivates a clearer sense of self—while helping participants relax from habitual social pressure.

These sessions are designed specifically for beginners with limited mobility. The practice integrates gentle strength, stillness, flexibility, and simple philosophical reflection, and is supported by mindful lifestyle choices. Through practice, participants are invited to step away from daily strain and reconnect with a calmer, more grounded way of living.
