About An

Hi there! I’m An 老师

A native Chinese speaker from China, currently living in Edmonton.

I have a long-standing passion for language and literature. During my 18 years in China, I hosted cultural and language events and received awards in Chinese recitation and debate, which deepened my understanding of Chinese expression, storytelling, and emotion.

I’ve also travelled widely across China, experiencing different regions, dialects, and traditions. These real-life experiences allow me to teach Chinese in a way that goes beyond textbooks.

With over three years of Chinese teaching experience, I’ve worked with learners of different ages, backgrounds, and goals. I strongly believe that every student learns differently, so my classes are always personalized—designed around your pace, interests, and way of thinking.

With a background in psychology, I use practical, evidence-based learning strategies such as clear communication, motivation support, and effective memory methods. My goal is to create a comfortable, inclusive, and encouraging environment where you feel confident and happy to start.

About the lesson

I am a passionate and supportive Chinese teacher, and you are very welcome, even if you are a complete beginner. There is no need to worry if you have never learned Chinese before—I will guide you step by step at a comfortable pace.

My classes are personalized to match your goals, learning style, and level. If you are preparing for academic exams or the HSK system, I provide a clear and structured approach to help you build a solid foundation. If your goal is daily communication, we can focus on practical speaking and listening skills used in real-life situations.

For students learning Chinese out of interest, I also enjoy introducing Chinese literature, history, and culture in a friendly and accessible way. As a long-time admirer of classical Chinese poetry and ancient works, I aim to make learning both meaningful and enjoyable—never overwhelming.

I care about understanding your motivation for learning Chinese, whether it is for study, work, travel, or personal interest. Based on your progress and feedback, I will adjust and update lesson content to ensure the learning process stays effective, relaxed, and encouraging.

I offer online tutoring as well as in-person lessons around the University of Alberta in Edmonton. If you are curious about Chinese and happy to try your first class, I would love to learn together with you in a supportive and positive environment
