About Mads
Hi! I'm Mads ️ I grew up in a house surrounded by quilts, and now am a big quilter! I've made an array of quilts, bags, cushions and wall hangings!
I've just finished my PhD, where I gained qualifications in teaching, and have tutored and taught students 1:1 in a number of subjects the last few years. I truly enjoy teaching students the why as well as the how! And now wish to merge my teaching skills with my quilting passion.
What I love most about quilting is that anyone can do it. You don't need to be "artistic" or have fancy equipment, just some patience and a willingness to unpick the occasional seam. I'd love to help you make something you're proud of

Whether you've never touched a rotary cutter or you've got a drawer full of half-finished blocks, these lessons will help you make quilts you're proud of.
We'll start by talking about what you'd like to make and what you already know, then build a plan around that. For beginners, that usually means working towards a first small project, such as a cushion cover, table runner or mini quilt. That way, you'll have gone through every stage from start to finish:
choosing and combining fabrics
accurate cutting with a rotary cutter and ruler
piecing with a consistent ¼" seam
pressing (and why it matters more than you'd think!)
basting, quilting and binding
I teach visually and hands-on, demonstrating each step before you try it yourself. I'll also explain why we do things a certain way, so you can troubleshoot on your own later rather than just following instructions. If you're more experienced, we can focus on whatever you'd like to improve! Lessons are relaxed, friendly and paced to suit
