About Tom
I am a bassist, educator, and audio engineer with over 15 years of international experience in performance and music education. Originally from Germany, I hold a Master of Music in Jazz Double Bass from the Manhattan School of Music in New York and a Master of Science in Audio Technology from the Technical University of Berlin. As a dedicated musician and educator, I have worked with students in Germany, the USA, and now Australia, sharing my knowledge of double bass, electric bass, and music theory. I have performed extensively across Europe, North America, Asia, and South America, touring internationally and appearing at renowned venues and festivals such as Carnegie Hall and the Berlin Philharmonic. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with world-class musicians, contribute to award-winning film scores, and release multiple albums as a bandleader and composer.

My pedagogical approach emphasises tailored, student-centered learning experiences. I
recognise that each student brings unique aspirations and talents, and I strive to nurture these
by providing a learning environment that accommodates diverse abilities and goals. My
teaching expertise covers a broad range of genres, including jazz, contemporary, and classical
music, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of diverse musical styles and
techniques. From fostering an ergonomic playing technique to achieving accurate intonation,
rhythmic precision, ear training, sight-reading and a solid theoretical foundation, I focus on
equipping students with the foundational skills necessary for their musical journeys.
Through the study and analysis of stylistically diverse repertoires, I aim to encourage students
to recognise melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic structures. By working with repertoire from
different eras and styles, students can greatly enrich their musical horizons.
