About Cherith

Hi, I’m Cherith! I’m a professional graphic designer with over 15 years of real world experience, working professionally since 2011 across branding, packaging, and digital design for both print and web. In addition to running my own freelance design business, I have also taught as a Design Professor at a Canadian college, giving me experience guiding students in both academic and real world design settings.

My background is deeply hands on. I work extensively with the Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and basic to intermediate video editing and animation. I also use Procreate, Figma, Canva, Squarespace, and custom CSS in active projects, allowing me to teach how design, layout, and code work together in practical, usable ways.

I’m known for being patient, clear, and detail oriented in my teaching. I understand how to break down complex ideas into manageable steps, and I tailor each lesson to the student’s goals, experience level, and learning style. My focus is on helping students build confidence, strong design judgment, and the ability to work independently.

About the lesson

My lessons are fully personalized, one on one, and taught online. I teach graphic design fundamentals, logo and brand identity design, typography and color selection, layout and hierarchy, mood boarding strategies, packaging design, as well as UI and UX design principles grounded in real world and academic practice. I also offer portfolio reviews with clear, constructive feedback based on both professional and academic standards.

On the technical side, I can teach everything from Procreate drawing basics to Adobe Illustrator with time saving techniques and shortcuts, Photoshop, InDesign, and the broader Adobe Creative Suite, including basic to intermediate animation and video editing. I also teach website and interface design using Figma, Canva for practical design workflows, and Squarespace for custom layouts, including CSS support and design focused coding help.

For students interested in modern workflows, I also teach how to use AI thoughtfully, including writing in your own voice with AI tools and using AI to assist with CSS and design problem solving without losing creative control.

Lessons begin by clarifying your goals, then working through real examples, exercises, or projects. Whether you are a beginner, student, hobbyist, or working creative, each session is designed to give you practical, transferable skills you can immediately apply with confidence.

Ruthie has been a pleasure to teach and work with! She has a very creative spirit and enjoys learning how to make her own custom illustrations for a business idea she is developing. Chris came prepared with a lot of information about what he is looking to learn in Canva. He was engaged throughout the call and expressed interest in continuing to learn more. We went slightly over time, which he said he was comfortable with.

He is very kind and easy to guide through screenshare. While he mentioned that he is not very tech savvy, he followed instructions well and was able to work through tasks with clear, step by step guidance. Overall, it was a positive and productive session.
