About Federico

I am a PhD economist at UCL and I run empirical work for a living, not only teach it. My own research estimates demand and pricing behaviour from retail scanner data covering millions of transactions, and as a visiting researcher at the Bank of England I work with firm-level survey panel data on inflation expectations. Before the PhD I spent two years at Frontier Economics building econometric evidence for competition cases, where the analysis had to survive scrutiny from opposing experts and regulators.

That background is the reason students come to me rather than to a general statistics tutor. I have had to defend identification assumptions in front of people paid to attack them. I know which specification choices matter, which are cosmetic, and what a supervisor or examiner will actually challenge in a viva.

I work daily in R, Stata, Python and Matlab. UCL MSc and MRes with Distinction, Warwick BSc with First Class Honours

Most students who contact me are somewhere in a dissertation and stuck at one of three points: the data will not behave, the identification strategy is not convincing, or the results are estimated but they cannot say what they mean. All three are fixable, and none of them are fixed by another lecture on the classical assumptions.

I teach the method and the code together, on your data, on your research question. You leave each session with working code you understand and can defend, not with something I wrote while you watched.

Areas I cover:
- Cross-sectional and panel data: fixed and random effects, clustering, dynamic panels
- Causal inference: difference-in-differences, instrumental variables, regression discontinuity, event studies, synthetic control
- Time series: ARIMA, VARs, cointegration, forecasting, structural breaks
- Discrete choice and demand estimation: logit, nested and mixed logit, BLP
- Data preparation: merging, cleaning, reshaping, handling missingness and outliers defensibly
- Interpretation and write-up: what your coefficients licence you to claim, and what they do not
- Robustness, replication and referee-proofing before submission

I also supervise complete dissertation projects from research question through to submission, and take on students preparing for a viva or resubmitting after corrections.

Sessions run online with screen sharing, so we work in your actual project files. Book a 15-minute call and send your research question, dataset and deadline in advance; I will tell you directly whether the project is feasible in the time you have.

IMPORTANT: To be clear before you get in touch: I teach analysis, I do not do it for you. I will not write your dissertation or run your regressions on your behalf — that is academic misconduct and it puts your degree at risk. What I will do is get you to the point where you understand and can defend every line of your own code and every number in your own results - i.e. you understand what choices to take in the empirical strategy and why.
