About Peter
I am a recent graduate of University College Utrecht (an honour’s college of Utrecht University founded in 1636, considered to be one of the most prestigious universities in the Netherlands). I graduated with a degree in Economics and Psychology but also studied advanced calculus and statistics as part of my degree. Maths is a subject that I have thoroughly enjoyed since primary school and I would like to not only help children who are struggling with Maths but also inspire them to enjoy it as much as I do. I am well prepared to teach any part of the 11+, 13+ or GCSE Maths curriculum.
I grew up in London and have previous experience volunteering at New End Primary School in Camden where I helped teach students who were struggling with Maths and English. I mostly taught students at an individual level but also sometimes worked with small groups of students as well.

I am willing to teach students who are preparing for 11+, 13+ or GCSE exams in Maths. I like to ask my students what topics they are struggling with so that we can pay the most attention to those topics initially. On top of this, I will test my students on the whole curriculum within the first few sessions so that I can identify any problem areas. If my students are finding a topic particularly difficult, my first aim is to identify what particular part of the working process they are struggling to understand. I find that for students who are particularly struggling with maths, that it is important to simplify the stages of the working out process as often students find it difficult to understand how one line of working leads to the next one. I can also offer extra help for exam tips, especially time management, and learning how to get the most marks out of a question even if one cannot complete it. With regards to homework, I prefer to give students practice questions that focus on the topics that students are struggling with along with the occasional past paper (depending on how close the students are to their exams).
I have a genuinely enthusiastic personality; I feel that in my previous jobs this meant that children enjoyed being supervised by me but also respected me. I feel that I am a patient, empathetic and caring person and these traits will help me succeed in this role. I also feel that my experience working with children thus far has taught me how to relate to different types of children and there is no one style of teaching or communication that works for every child.
