About Arshad

Hi, I'm a UF Electrical Engineering and Pre-Med student who scored a 5 on AP Chem, AP Calc AB/BC, and AP Physics C: Mechanics, along with a 7 on IB Chemistry and a 6 on IB Math HL AA. I love basketball (go Bucks) and cooking. My passion is demystifying complex topics, helping students see the elegance in equations and the fun in formulas. Let's make complex subjects simple!

Hello everyone! I'm delighted to share a bit about my tutoring style for Calculus and Chemistry. Since I work with middle and high schoolers, my main goal is to make these often-tricky subjects clear, relatable, and even fun! I primarily work with students who: - Are motivated to improve but feel stuck or overwhelmed. - Want to go beyond just passing and truly master the material. - Need test preparation for midterms, finals, AP exams, or college placement tests. I approach every concept with the mindset of building a sturdy bridge—we start with a solid foundation, build the supports carefully, and make sure the whole structure is safe to cross. * My Teaching Method and Techniques * My teaching philosophy is simple: Concepts before Calculations (in math) and Understanding before Memorization (in chemistry). The Analogy Method: Think of a tough concept like differentiation in Calculus. It can seem abstract, but I connect it to something tangible. We might compare it to driving a car: Position is your car's location; the derivative is your speed (how quickly your position is changing); and the second derivative is your acceleration (how quickly your speed is changing). By using these analogies, the abstract suddenly becomes concrete and memorable. Similarly, in chemistry, we might compare chemical equilibrium to a seesaw: reactants and products are on either side, constantly adjusting to stay balanced. The "Why" Rule: I always ask why a formula or principle works. Anyone can plug numbers into an equation, but true understanding comes from knowing the underlying reason. For example, instead of just giving you the quadratic formula, we'll talk about completing the square to see where the formula actually comes from. This turns you from a formula-follower into a problem-solver. Active Learning: My sessions are interactive. I don't lecture! I use mini-whiteboards, online simulations (like PhET for chemistry), and concept mapping to help you visualize and actively manipulate the material. * A Typical Lesson Plan * A standard 60-90 minute tutoring session usually follows this four-step rhythm, which I call The P.R.I.D.E. Method: Pre-check (5-10 minutes): We start with a quick review of the previous session's key concept or the current homework to assess your comfort level. This is like a quick warm-up stretch before a run—it ensures your mental muscles are ready. Review & Introduction (15-20 minutes): I use an analogy or real-world example to introduce the new topic (e.g., relating rates of change to the stock market or stoichiometry to baking a cake). We work through one or two example problems together while you take notes on a special concept sheet. Do Together & Explore (30-45 minutes): This is the main work phase. I give you a practice problem, and we work it out side-by-side. I guide your thinking, asking clarifying questions like, "What's the first step you need to take?" or "What does the coefficient here tell us?" You do most of the writing and thinking. We repeat this cycle until you feel confident. Wrap-up & Next Steps (5-10 minutes): We create a summary of the key takeaways for the day. I assign a few targeted practice problems—not busy work, but specific problems designed to reinforce the trickiest parts of the lesson. Finally, we briefly outline the plan for the next session. *What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor * Focus on the "Transferable Skill" Many tutors only teach you how to get the right answer for that specific problem. I teach you the thought process so you can tackle any problem on a test. My goal is to make myself obsolete! When you no longer need me because you've mastered the process, that's my ultimate success. I'm not just a homework helper; I'm a process coach. * Customized Concept Sheets* After each session, I often provide a mini-review sheet or a "Formula Flowchart" tailored specifically to the trickiest part of the lesson we covered. This isn't just a generic handout; it's a personalized study tool designed to correct your specific misunderstandings, making studying for tests much more effective. * Reducing Anxiety * Academic struggle can cause a lot of stress. I maintain a non-judgmental, patient, and encouraging environment. Learning is about making mistakes—we celebrate the mistakes as opportunities to learn! If you're stuck, we take a deep breath, break the problem into smaller pieces, and celebrate the small wins along the way. * Who My Lessons Are For * I primarily work with students in high school and middle school. For< Calculus>, my lessons are geared toward students in Pre-Calculus and Calculus AB/BC (or equivalent college-level single-variable calculus). This includes topics like limits, derivatives, integrals, and sequences/series. For , I tutor students in foundational chemistry (typically 8th-10th grade) and those taking AP Chemistry or College General Chemistry. Topics covered include atomic structure, stoichiometry, gas laws, thermodynamics, and kinetics. I’m best suited for students who are motivated to improve but feel stuck or overwhelmed, who want to go beyond just passing and truly master the material, and who need test preparation for midterms, finals, AP exams, or college placement tests. If you're ready to turn frustration into mastery and confusing formulas into clear concepts, let's connect!
