About Alyssa
I am an elementary school teacher, and have been teaching for three years. I have taught third grade for one year, and fifth grade for two years. I have also had extensive experience working in first and sixth grade classrooms. I enjoy teaching math, and helping students understand why things work and how to solve problems to encourage confidence and independence in math.

My teaching approach is more of a guided discovery based learning. I believe that if a child can solve a problem and work through it to discover the solution with a little bit of guidance, the methods will make more sense to them, and they have a better chance of retaining the concepts long-term. Students will rarely solve lists of problems on a worksheet, but will more often solve problems in a practical, real-life scenario.
