  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

Fascinated by aerospace since childhood, particularly growing up near an airbase, I pursued aerospace engineering due to this passion. My career evolved as I gained industry and academic experience, providing practical context to theoretical knowledge. This exposure inspired me to become a tutor, seeing the importance of guiding future engineers. Private tutoring allows me to offer personalized support to aspiring scientists and engineers, combining my industry insights with my academic background. I derive great joy from helping students grasp complex concepts and prepare for careers in science, sharing my knowledge and passion with those eager to excel in this dynamic field.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less)

As a specialized tutor in mathematics, physics, mechanical, and aerospace engineering, I emphasize foundational topics crucial for these fields. In mathematics, I cover algebra, geometry, and calculus. In physics, key areas include mechanics, kinematics, dynamics, oscillations, thermodynamics, optics etc. I particularly enjoy discussing mechanics, calculus applications in physics, and foundational thermodynamics and optics due to their practical relevance in engineering and physics. For engineering students, I can teach statics, dynamics, machine design, engineering design, mechanics of material and mechanical vibrations, aircraft performance and design.

While I appreciate the breadth, advanced topics like abstract algebra or quantum mechanics can be challenging. However, I strive to make all subjects engaging and accessible for students, fostering a strong grasp of fundamental principles. My goal is to ensure students not only understand but also appreciate the underlying concepts that drive mathematics, physics, and engineering forward.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My journey in aerospace engineering and education was profoundly influenced by inspiring role models and teachers, notably my university professor specializing in aircraft design and aerodynamics. Their deep expertise, passion, and engaging teaching style made a lasting impact on me. Beyond imparting technical knowledge, this professor shared practical insights from their aerospace industry experience, igniting my passion for engineering and guiding my career path.

I was inspired by how my professor seamlessly connected theoretical concepts with real-world applications, enhancing understanding and relevance. Now, as a tutor, I strive to emulate their approach by nurturing curiosity, offering practical insights, and building a strong foundation of knowledge in my students. My goal is to inspire future engineers and educators, just as my professor inspired and guided me, by fostering a deep appreciation for aerospace engineering and its practical implications.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Being a good tutor requires a blend of essential qualities. Firstly, a strong command of the subject matter is crucial, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information delivery. Effective communication skills are vital for conveying complex concepts in a clear, tailored manner that suits each student's learning style. Patience is key in supporting students through challenges and allowing them time to grasp concepts fully.

Adaptability is essential to tailor teaching methods to individual needs and learning paces. Empathy fosters a supportive environment by understanding and addressing students' struggles. A genuine passion for teaching motivates students and enhances engagement. Preparation is fundamental for planning lessons, providing materials, and designing exercises.

Regular assessment and constructive feedback aid in monitoring progress and adjusting strategies. Lastly, professionalism builds trust through integrity and reliability in interactions with students and families. Overall, combining subject expertise, communication, patience, adaptability, empathy, passion, preparation, assessment, and professionalism forms the foundation for effective tutoring.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During high school, a memorable project introduced me to aerospace engineering through hands-on experience. In physics class, we designed and tested paper airplanes to demonstrate aerodynamics principles. Initially straightforward, the project grew intriguing as we explored flight physics-learning about lift, drag, thrust, and gravity's role in aircraft flight.

Experimenting with different airplane designs revealed how slight modifications impacted flight performance-some soared gracefully, while others nosedived unexpectedly. This project deepened my appreciation for flight physics and sparked a lasting interest in aerospace engineering.

Reflecting on this experience, I value hands-on learning's role in inspiring lifelong passions. It highlighted aerospace engineering's interdisciplinary nature, blending physics, mathematics, and creativity. This project fueled my career in aerospace and continues to shape my teaching approach, emphasizing practical learning and inspiring students' curiosity in this dynamic field.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

My journey in aerospace engineering, mathematics, and physics has been marked by various challenges that have significantly influenced my learning and professional growth.

Firstly, the complexity inherent in aerospace engineering demands rigorous study and problem-solving skills across diverse disciplines like aerodynamics, propulsion, materials science, and control systems.

Secondly, the mathematical rigor required in aerospace engineering, particularly in calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra, poses ongoing challenges that are fundamental to solving engineering problems effectively.

Additionally, bridging theoretical knowledge with practical applications presents another hurdle. While academic coursework establishes a theoretical foundation, real-world aerospace projects involve unpredictable variables, necessitating hands-on experience and adaptable problem-solving approaches.

Despite these obstacles, I view them as opportunities for growth and innovation, strengthening my expertise and fueling my passion for aerospace engineering. Each challenge encountered fosters adaptation, skill development, and a drive to make meaningful contributions to the field.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I have a passion for teaching within the realms of aerospace engineering, mathematics, and physics. My excitement stems from sharing knowledge and enthusiasm with aspiring engineers, students, and those curious about flight and space exploration.

In aerospace engineering, I am particularly drawn to aircraft design and propulsion systems. The process of conceptualizing and optimizing innovative aircraft is captivating, blending aerodynamics, materials science, and propulsion technologies.

Inspiring the next generation of engineers and scientists is a key focus. I believe education shapes aerospace's future by fostering curiosity, problem-solving, and creativity. I aim to cultivate lifelong learners and innovators.

Beyond teaching and aerospace, I value exploration and discovery across scientific domains. Continuous learning enriches my perspective and fuels my professional journey. My passion resides at the intersection of education, aerospace engineering, and exploration, driving my commitment to teaching, inspiring, and contributing to aerospace technology advancements.
