About Johnpaul
I am a qualified Physics and Maths teacher, having completed my PGCE in Physics at the University of Oxford, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and experience teaching Mathematics and Physics in both the UK and internationally. Throughout my teaching journey, I have worked with students from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities, helping them build confidence, overcome learning barriers and achieve their academic goals.
My passion for teaching comes from my own experience as a student. I wasn't always confident in Mathematics or Science. In fact, I once struggled with both subjects and believed they simply weren't my strengths. Everything changed when a teacher showed me that success wasn't about natural ability but about consistent practice, clear explanations and believing that improvement was possible. That experience transformed my academic journey and inspired me to become the kind of teacher who helps every student realise their own potential.
Since then, I have dedicated myself to making Maths and Physics accessible, engaging and enjoyable. I have taught in secondary schools, provided one-to-one tuition, and supported disadvantaged learners through tutoring programmes in the UK. I have also volunteered my time to provide free Mathematics and Physics lessons to students who would otherwise have had limited access to academic support. These experiences have taught me that every learner is different, and that effective teaching begins with understanding the individual.
My teaching is built on patience, encouragement and high expectations. I enjoy breaking difficult concepts into simple, logical steps and helping students develop genuine understanding rather than relying on memorisation. Watching a student gain confidence, solve problems independently and realise they are capable of succeeding is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
Whether you're preparing for GCSEs, A-Levels, catching up after finding a topic difficult, or aiming for the highest grades, I am committed to creating a supportive learning environment where you feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and growing in confidence. My goal is not only to help you achieve excellent results but also to develop the skills and mindset that will benefit you long after the exam is over.

I believe every student can succeed in Maths and Physics with the right guidance, encouragement and learning approach. My lessons are designed to build confidence, strengthen understanding and help students develop the problem-solving skills needed to excel in class and achieve outstanding exam results.
Rather than relying on memorisation, I focus on helping students understand the "why" behind every concept. I break complex topics into simple, manageable steps using clear explanations, worked examples, visual illustrations where appropriate, and plenty of guided practice. Throughout each lesson, I encourage students to ask questions, think critically and explain their reasoning, allowing me to identify misconceptions early and address them effectively.
Every lesson is tailored to the individual student's learning style, strengths and areas for improvement. After assessing their current level, I create a personalised learning plan that targets knowledge gaps while building on existing skills. Students receive regular practice questions, exam-style problems and constructive feedback to help them monitor their progress and gain confidence.
A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, although longer sessions can be arranged. Lessons usually include a review of previous work, introduction of new concepts, guided examples, independent problem-solving and a summary with recommendations for further practice.
I am a University of Oxford-trained Physics teacher with a strong background in Mathematics, experienced in explaining challenging concepts in an engaging and accessible way. My teaching combines subject expertise with patience, encouragement and evidence-informed teaching strategies to help students become independent, confident learners.
My lessons are suitable for KS3, GCSE and A-Level students, as well as learners who need additional support, want to improve their grades or are aiming for top marks. Whether you're preparing for school assessments, GCSEs, A-Levels or simply want to develop a stronger understanding of Maths and Physics, I am committed to helping you reach your full academic potential.
