Before I begin with any lesson, I always try to understand the background of my learners by asking them questions about problems they have with studying and understanding. This gives me an idea of where the focus should be. I like to give practical examples, and explain the application of what I'm teaching in real life. Also, small tasks in between lessons to measure the progress.
