I like to build upon the child’s previous knowledge.
Initially, I assess the child’s strengths and weaknesses through a short written piece and also like to ask for previous works marked in school. At this point, it is vital to me that the child points out what they struggle with, so that I can build their confidence but also ensure that they achieve their desired grade and more.
For exam preparation, it is essential to do as many past papers as possible, which is something I focus on in tutoring sessions.
Some homework for tutoring may be given, after all practise makes perfect!
