About Gemma
Hi, I'm Gemma. I have worked as a teacher for almost 5 years in Melbourne and London. I am a Victorian Institute of Teaching registered teacher of English, Humanities, Media and Literacy. I can tutor in a local library or at your residence for your convenience and am flexible on after school times.
Over the past two years I have worked closely with special education needs children in a mainstream school, developing their Literacy skills and helping them achieve their goals academically. Due to this, I have a strong understanding of various special education needs such as dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, dyspraxia and so forth. In my role as a Literacy teacher I would facilitate lessons around reading comprehension, writing skills, grammar, and punctuation. I have helped pupils in year 7 and 8 improve their 'reading age' by several years and reading ability to become independent readers, building their confidence.
Many of the schools and areas I have taught in are greatly multicultural with many pupils being English as an additional language (EAL) students. My specialisation in my Masters of Teaching was in EAL and I can greatly assist EAL students with the minor adjustments they may need to boost their English proficiency.
I am passionate about helping young people realise and reach their potential. I have worked closely with special education needs and EAL students, developing my practice as a teacher and achieving strong results for these pupils.

Lessons are for one hour and will be tailored to the student. In the first lesson I will get to know the student and their ability level so I can create a bespoke plan for each student and their needs.
My approach to teaching is through positivity and encouragement, helping the student believe in their abilities and feel a sense of pride when they reach their learning goals.
I am also able to tutor students in Primary school wanting to take Independent High School entrance exams or prepare themselves for the next years' intake. Please inform me if this is the case as I can find the specific test formats and use these to help prepare your child accordingly.

Gemma worked at the school I currently work at in London, and I can honestly say she is one of the best teachers I’ve ever worked with. She is organised, passionate and dedicated - such a talented all-round practitioner. I can’t recommend her enough as a teacher!
Gemma is an incredibly patient, inspiring and supportive teacher. I had the pleasure of working alongside her and experienced her passion for supporting young people in developing their literacy and English skills.
Gemma is incredibly meticulous and lessons and planning reflect this aspect of her personality; students would always benefit from personalised lessons and consistent feedback to support progress.
Gemma's use of formative and summative assessment is exemplary and gives pupils the support they need to progress and take ownership of their own learning journey.
I would recommend Gemma to anyone looking to develop their English and Literacy skills.I have had the pleasure of working with Gemma at a secondary school in the UK and can only say good things. She is diligent, calm and passionate about what she teaches. Her students were her top priority and she delivered adapted lessons that met the needs to all students.
