About Michael
I have 16 years of extensive experience in the further and higher education sector. My academic career started at Stockport College in 1999. In that time, I have gained a GNVQ Media Communication and Production (distinction), National Diploma in Media Production (Distinction), BA (Hons) Film and Media (2:2), a master’s degree in English Studies: Contemporary Film and Literature (Merit) and a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (M) (Distinction for theory and teaching practice).
I spent five years (2009-2014) at Manchester Metropolitan University, as a Student Services Officer, looking after the Business and Law Faculty examinations provision. In 2014, I moved into an academic position with MMU as an Associate Lecturer and I taught on the BA (Hons) Film and Media degree for six years.
During my time at MMU and Manchester College, I was involved in student learning, preparing, and delivering taught sessions both in seminar and lecture formats. I have helped develop appropriate and challenging assessments that measure student performance, and I also made sure that I met specific learning outcomes. I have experience planning and delivering study skills sessions to improve students' functional skills, critical thinking/writing, academic writing, and research skills.
