I base my teaching on a students needs.
I prefer a practical/ hands-on approach and want to make the lessons fun and realistic.
I really understand how hard it is to understand our Australian accent, our "words" for different things including reading mail from Centrelink, Medicare etc.
I am a qualified teacher having worked in Colleges in the Hobart area (mainly Claremont) and do Relief teaching during school terms. I have spent a lot of time helping people settle into Tasmania and have many friends from countries such as Africa - Rwanda, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Congo; Afghanistan; Nepal (Bhutan), and Burma (Koren). I am a member of BCC Africa who support two orphanages in Kenya. I travelled to Kenya in August this year and spent time at both orphanages in Nairobi and Mwea. I have a strong background in health, nursing and sport.
Additional travel costs may be charged for lessons where travel is more than 50kms away.
Lessons cancelled less than 8 hours beforehand will still be charged the full fee.
Since 2008 I have Volunteered with newly arrived families to help with settlement in Australia.
I was a teacher at Claremont College for 20 years - teaching in many areas including:
Health, Introduction to Nursing, Aged Care, Disability, Sports Science, Business Studies, Sport & Recreation.
I am also a First Aid trainer and assessor and teach first aid in schools and with St John Ambulance.
I continue to do relief teaching mainly at Rosny College, but also at Elizabeth and Claremont College.
I am really aware of how hard it is to learn English and understand our Australian accent. I also understand how difficult academic writing for University Studies can be.
I have helped many of my "families" with writing/understanding assignment work for TAFE and Unviersity etc.
Jill taught me at college level and, years later, offered me professional advice and collegiality support as I completed my teaching degree. She is a deeply caring, totally honest and highly knowledgeable individual who frequently went 'above and beyond' for her students. I strongly recommend Jill as a friendly, good natured person and a highly able and thoroughly qualified tutor.
Jill is a very down to earth and enthusiastic Teacher.
She has great skills in the English curriculum area .
Jill Is highly approachable and is able to break activities down into manageable tasks for her students.
She is trustworthy and honest and I have no hesitation in recommending her for any position
