About Madeline

I am a 24-year-old English Teaching Assistant working for the Community of Madrid. I have been teaching English in a primary school and giving private lessons to ESL students for 2 years. I graduated from Denison University, a top liberal arts college in the United States, with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Spanish minor, as well as being a 4-year varsity letter winner from being on the women's soccer team. I have spent a total of 2 and a half years living in Spain, learning the Spanish language and culture. I have been a camp counselor and babysitter for 8 years, so I have a lot of experience working with children from the ages of 3-16 years old. I am passionate about my work and helping students achieve their learning goals!

About the lesson

As a tutor, my approach centers on creating engaging, interactive lessons that help students truly understand and retain the material, rather than simply memorizing answers. I incorporate a mix of oral and written activities in each session to reinforce learning through repetition and active participation. This balance helps students process information in different ways, improving long-term memory and confidence in their skills. A typical lesson begins with a fun warm-up game or activity related to the subject, designed to activate prior knowledge and spark interest. From there, we move into either an explanation of new material or focus on an area where the student is struggling. The majority of our time is spent working through practice problems or exercises, during which I ask questions that prompt the student to explain their reasoning. This strategy helps me ensure they understand the concept fully, and it creates natural opportunities for them to ask questions or clarify misunderstandings. I strive to form meaningful connections with every student. I take the time to learn about their interests, goals, and learning styles so I can tailor lessons to be as engaging and relevant as possible. Whether that means using examples from a favorite sport or incorporating creative storytelling, I aim to make learning something they look forward to. My ESL lessons are designed for primary and secondary students and focus on building strong foundational skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. I also offer biology and chemistry tutoring for both primary and high school students, adapting lessons to suit their grade level and curriculum. Across all subjects, my goal is to create a supportive, stimulating environment where students feel encouraged to grow, ask questions, and enjoy the learning process.
