I have lived and worked most of my life in Australia - while many of my students were born (or their parents were born) in other countries, including China, Italy, France and especially Spain. I lived and worked in Spain for about twelve months.
When meeting my students I take a keen interest in their work and what they would like to achieve. I share my skills and experience, and access to resources, in supporting students to improve their abilities or achieve their objectives. I enjoy helping students better understand their subjects, topics and work expected of them. I am always keen to discuss ideas, by listening to and asking questions.
I take time to prepare lessons before meeting students. When planning I take into consideration where the student is 'at' in their English, and where they would like to be 'at'. Lessons are structured around student's competencies and objectives, and typically include exercises in speaking, reading and writing. I encourage private study habits in my students. Study and learning are more enjoyable - and effective - when shared.
With over twenty years' experience working with children and young people, in Australia and Europe, my areas of interest are English literature and Theatre. I have worked as a private tutor since 2010, assisting primary and secondary (and some university level) students with mainstream and private study. I also have experience working in classrooms, as a Conversation Teacher and Teachers' Aide.
I am happy to meet students regularly, typically weekly, or as required. Sessions are typically confirmed a week in advance. Cancellations may be inevitable, but can cause inconvenience to either party, so I request that cancellations be communicated as early as possible. If a cancellation is made on day of session booking, I ask that half of the hourly rate be made payable (at the expense of cancelling party - so, if student cancels on the day, half the rate is charged; if I cancel on the day, the next session is half-price).
Currently I am completing my Master of Arts thesis (researching contemporary cinematic adaptations of Shakespeare's "Hamlet") - writing about theatre, cinema, English literature and history.
I have been working as a personal tutor of English since 2010. I have provided assistance to primary and secondary (and some university level) students.
Currently I work as a Teachers' Aide at Cheltenham Secondary College. In 2018 I also worked in a similar role at St. Francis Xavier College (Year 10-12 campus) in Beaconsfield.
I work casually as an agent of ANZUK, providing education support in mainstream and special-needs schools around Melbourne. I have been registered with ANZUK since 2017.
For the 2013-2014 European academic year I worked as an intern in a Spanish school. Enrolled with a local university, I worked as a Conversation Teacher at "Nuestra Seniora de las Maravillas," a Catholic School in Madrid.
I have considerable experience working with Primary students, in Outside of School Hours and vacation care. For five years I worked with Trinity Grammar (junior school). I have also worked for Camp Australia and other OSHC programmes.
I enjoy reading, and writing, and have a number of projects underway including a family history and local church history.
