Joey has an unmatched joy for the written word and is truly gifted at sharing that joy and her extensive knowledge with others. I've known Joey for many years, and as a fellow educator, I can confidently say she is the most patient person I know within and beyond academia. She naturally makes even the most complex subjects accessible. Her passion is contagious, and her dedication to each of her student's success is obvious. Joey is the kind of teacher I wish I'd had when I was much younger.

I have known Joey Kingsely in the English graduate program at the University of Rochester. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing so she helped me a lot in the application process to MFA programs in terms of revising the personal statement and what graduate programs look for in candidates. Joey also was a good mentor in poetry and she read my work and gave me advice and thorough feedback on my poems. She was always friendly and made the time to help even when she was busy. She is a great person to go to for book recommendations and she has a great library of English literature books that she was willing to lend me. Last spring, she TA'ed for a class I was in, International Fiction, and she was very clear in making the material accessible and getting students engaged by leading a discussion.
