About Hannah

Hi there!

My name is Hannah and I’m currently studying a Master’s in Modern and Contemporary Literature at UCL. I graduated from my undergraduate degree at The University of York, in the top 1% of my year, with a Starred First in English and Related Literature. I am also hoping to begin a PhD in 2021, with the view of teaching at university level.

With my considerable expertise in my immediate subject area and others, I am keen to channel my previous teaching experience to cater to individual tutoring needs in fresh and engaging ways. I am all too aware of the challenges studying can pose across the academic spectrum, and as such believe that tutoring should provide novel approaches to said challenges, whilst also ensuring the student is suitably equipped to achieve their potential.

I'm extremely passionate about access to education: my tutoring will help students engage with course material in ways that are both individual and adhere with the relevant success criteria of the mark scheme. From previous experience as a tutor, I am proud of my ability to transfer my passion for learning and new ideas to even the most disengaged learners. Past students have commented on my ability to make complicated ideas and issues easily understandable, which is a considerable part of overcoming any existing barriers to learning. I adopt an understanding and patient teaching style, whilst also making my expectations clear from each tutoring session: simply put, this is based in the student engaging with the session as much as possible.

In addition to completing my Master’s, I am currently teaching myself French and Italian. I am also a freelance lighting designer for theatre looking forward to taking on the very creative role of Head Lighting Designer for UCL's production of A Clockwork Orange in March 2020.
