About Fotis
I am a physicist and machine learning researcher with a Distinction in Mathematical & Theoretical Physics from Oxford and a PhD in Machine Learning at CERN (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow).
My work focuses on real-time decision systems, statistical modelling, and high-performance machine learning. Alongside research, I have extensive experience preparing students for Oxford admissions (PAT/ESAT and interviews), A-level Physics/Maths, and undergraduate physics modules.
I did not come from a traditional elite background — I grew up in a small village in Greece and largely self-taught advanced mathematics and physics due to financial constraints. This shaped my teaching philosophy: I focus on deep intuition, problem-solving strategy, and independent thinking rather than memorisation.
Over the years I have:
• Achieved Distinction in Mathematical & Theoretical Physics at Oxford
• Completed a CERN-based PhD using cutting-edge machine learning
• Competed successfully in international Physics/Astronomy Olympiads
• Helped students receive Oxford interview invitations and offers
• Supported university physics students in demanding theoretical modules.
If you are motivated and serious about improvement, I can help you move fast.

ESAT/PAT & Oxford Preparation
My ESAT/PAT preparation is highly structured and fully tailored to each student. Before each session, students receive carefully selected problem sets targeting the exact skills Oxford tests.
During lessons we:
• Diagnose weaknesses precisely
• Build fast and reliable problem-solving frameworks
• Develop mathematical fluency under time pressure
• Train for unfamiliar, high-difficulty questions
For interview preparation, I run realistic Oxford-style mock interviews using unseen problems. The focus is on how you think and communicate, not just reaching the final answer — exactly what Oxford tutors look for.
A-Level & University Support
For A-level and undergraduate students, lessons typically follow a structured but flexible format:
• Review of key homework problems
• Identification of conceptual gaps
• Clear explanations with strong physical intuition
• Guided problem solving together
I regularly help students with:
• A-level Physics & Mathematics
• ESAT/PAT preparation
• University Physics (Quantum, Statistical, Condensed Matter)
• Mathematical methods for physicists
Lesson Logistics
Lessons are conducted online via Zoom using a digital whiteboard and tablet, closely replicating the feel of an Oxford-style supervision. When helpful, students receive annotated notes or additional problem sets after the session.
Who I Work Best With I work best with motivated students who:
• Aim for top universities (Oxbridge, Imperial, etc.)
• Want deep understanding rather than shortcuts
• Are willing to engage with challenging problems
If you are primarily looking for quick homework fixes, I may not be the best fit.

Perfect! Best tutor for Oxford admission.
Very reliable and helpful.Perfect! Fotios is a great tutor. He was very responsive from the first communication, clearly understood our requirements and tutored. My son is more confident now. I will highly recommend him to anyone who wants to learn physics at a higher level. Thanks
Perfect! Extremely good teacher and a knowledgeable guy! My only problem is I didn’t have someone like him to help me from the start. He teaches Complex variables so much better than my university lecturer and I would honestly recommend him to anyone who needs help!
Perfect! Excellent Tutor. Fotios is extremely knowledgeable in mathematics and physics and was able to explain complex undergraduate physics topics to me during our lessons in a clear, concise, and interesting way. He is very reliable, committed and personable and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a tutor!
Perfect! Fotios is a very committed, reliable and knowledgeable tutor, his lessons are interesting, concise, and well-structured. My son has learned so much from his lessons, and Math has become one of his favourite and best subjects.
Perfect! Excellent tutor. Very good at explaining topics and concepts. Would definitely recommend!
Perfect! Fotis is thoughtful, kind, brilliant, knowledgeable and dependable. He has gone above and beyond to help so many students in so many different fields. I cannot recommend Fotis more strongly.
Perfect! Fotis is a highly qualified and compassionate tutor who did a great job working with two A-Level Physics students! I definitely recommend his services to anyone who is looking for a tutor who is both knowledgeable and personable. He's a gem!
Perfect! We are so pleased to have Fotios teaching my son maths. He have so much positive qualities like compassion patience commitment and a very knowledgeable tutor, he have all these qualities in abundance and his expertise in teaching has put our minds at ease and my son is confident now and really enjoying.
Thank you for the support and I will highly recommend.Perfect! Excellent! Fotios, over the course of 4 months, has really helped my daughter develop her problem-solving skills. He makes the subject engaging and can pass on his enthusiasm to his students. I really think she will do very well in the Physics Aptitude Test.
Good! He knows physics very well and aims to give an engaging tutorial, however I don't think he spent enough time preparing for our lesson which was rather disappointing.

Studying alongside Fotios as Physics students here at Oxford has demonstrated to me that he is one of the most intelligent and diligent Physicists I've ever had the pleasure of working with. His understanding of mathematics and physics, as well as his seamless ability to explain difficult concepts to me and my colleagues, reflects very strongly on his ability as a tutor.
Fotios is such an amazing tutor! He makes everything seem easy, by explaining, even the most complicated ideas, in simple words. He is always eager to answer your questions and help you in anything you need. I totally suggest him as your tutor!
Fotios is a very skilled tutor, with a very broad knowledge spectrum which proves to be essential when answering my questions! I would definitely recommend him to anyone.
He is an excellent teacher with enthusiasm for physics and maths and a great ability to pass on his knowledge to his students
We met in the University of Oxford. He is an extremely helpful tutor with a a very clear and analytical mind. He explains concepts well and is a very approachable and pleasant! Definitely recommended!
Fotis has already worked as a tutor in school.
He used to teach his friends about astronomy as he became a member of the National team of astronomy of Greece when he was 16. Today he is one of the best students in the physics department of Oxford.View more recommendations
