About Sara
I have spent the last 13 years in basic science research and will be graduating with my PhD in Virology later this fall. I've studied genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, and microbiology.
I love helping others understand science and sharing my enthusiasm about it. Towards the end of my PhD I have begun to focus more on the education side of science and am eager to bring evidenced-backed teaching practices into STEM education.
When I'm not thinking about science education, you can find me dreaming up new baking projects, building toys for my parakeets, and working in my garden.

I teach Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell biology, and Genetics for high school and college (undergraduate and graduate) level courses.
Each lesson plan starts with an overview of the topic we'll be covering, followed by some basic terminology necessary for the lesson to orient the student. Then we'll get into the meat of the lesson, and end with a recap of what we've gone over, and a summary by the student of what they have learned, which helps greatly with content retention for the student.
At the beginning of our lessons, whether it be one or multiple, I will take a few minutes to discuss with the student what has been causing difficulties for them in the class and how they feel they learn best so we can tailor lessons to their learning style and needs for their course.
