Learning in visual arts is primarily focused around projects, demonstrations and discussions about projects, artworks, artists, art history, skills and techniques. My teaching involves the creation of innovative learning programs within the national and upper school curriculum frameworks. Progression is made from obtaining and building upon foundation skills and techniques including research, analysis and development through to completed projects, self assessment and reflection. Students are nurtured to grow creatively through their own individuality and interests to create some impressive and unique artworks.
I am a qualified Secondary Visual Arts and Media Production and Analysis Teacher with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Visual Arts and minoring in Film and Television. My passion for visual art is supported by over 20 years of practical experience as an artist. I am a versatile artist who works in a variety of mediums including painting (watercolour, gouache, oil, acrylic), drawing (ink, pencil, conte crayons, copic markers, paint pens, graphite, charcoal, chalk pastel, oil pastel), ceramics (hand building, wheel forming, slip casting), sculpture (assemblage, carving, modelling, subtractive, ephemeral, installation, wire, armature), paper cutting (stencilling and design), printmaking (wood print, lino print, mono print, etching, dry point, screen print, collagraph), textiles (sewing, screen print, dying), weaving, photography (digital, film), film production (pre and post production, directing, production management, sound, lighting, editing), encaustics, mixed media, canvas framing, canvas stretching, gesso making, and exhibition.
My love for movies, cinematography and direction have influenced my pursuit of Film and Television knowledge and ultimately Media Production and Analysis. I have intimate knowledge of film making pre and post production and have been involved in the making of two short films where I performed the roles of Director and Production Manager.
I have been undertaking short term teaching contracts, volunteer specialised art teaching and casual relief teaching opportunities in local secondary and primary schools. I can confidently use my knowledge, skills and abilities to inspire students and provide ongoing support and effective teaching in line with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and Western Australia Curriculum.
